1. Clean and assemble models.
2. Glue sand to the tops of the bases.
3. Spray with black paint.
4. Use thinned down black paint to fill in any parts the spray missed.

Blue (armour)

1. Start with a basecoat of Necron Abyss.
2. Then liberally highlight with Regal Blue. Be sure to cover all edges while doing this. I covered abut a third of the blue armour in this stage.
3. Carefully pick out all the edges with Ultramarines Blue.
4. Pick out the most pronounced edges with Space Wolves Grey.
5. Wash all over the blue areas with Asurmen Blue.

Crimson (armour, purity seals, lenses, squad/chapter markings)

1. Start with a basecoat of Mechrite Red.
2. Carefully pick out the edges with Blood Red.
3. Pick out the raised edges with Fiery Orange.
4. Make very small highlights with Bleached Bone
5. Wash with Baal Red

Khaki (cloth, leather, parchment)

1. Basecoat with Khemri Brown.
2. Highlight with Kommando Khaki, leaving the previous colour only in the recesses.
3. Make small highlights with Bleached bone.
4. Wash with Delvan Mud.

Black (weapon casings, hair)

1. Basecoat with Chaos Black.
2. Liberally highlight with Adeptus Battlegrey.
3. Carefully pick out the edges with Codex Grey.
4. Pick out raised edges with Fortress Grey.
5. Wash with Badab Black.

Metal (weapons, chest eagle, decorative elements)

1. Basecoat with Boltgun Metal.
2. Liberally highlight with Chainmail
3. Pick out raised edges and wing tips with Mithral Silver
4. Wash with Badab Black.
5. Lightly Drybrush blades with Mithral Silver

Flesh (uh, duh?)

1. Basecoat with Dark Flesh
2. Highlight with Tarllan Flesh, leaving the previous colour only visible in the recesses.
3. Make small highlights with Elf Flesh, focusing on nose, eyebrow ridges etc.
4. Make tiny highlights with Bleached Bone.
5. Wash with Ogryn Flesh.

Brown (hair)

1. Basecoat with Scorched Brown.
2. Overbrush with Bestial Brown.
3. Highlight with Bleached Bone.
4. Wash with Delvan Mud.

Bases

1. Paint the top of the base with Chaos Black if necessary.
2. Drybrush the top of the base with Codex Grey.
3. Drybrush the outside of the top of the base with Skull White.
4. Paint the rim of the base with Scorched Brown.
5. Now spray the model with varnish.

These are my first few Skaven nightrunners. I intend these to represent clan scouts, rather than Eshin mercenaries. All my nightrunners/scouts will have studded leather armour and left-hand daggers.

I painted my nightrunners using the same techniques as my clanrats. I needed to add some detergent to the green-brown ink mixture to get it to flow properly, and by the looks of it I needed to take more care with my final varnish.

By using a specially prepared backdrop, consisting of a cardboard box and a sheet of printer paper, I was able to get a sufficiently solid background that I was able to remove on computer and replace with a gradient.

The Chaos god Slaanesh is the Dark Prince, the lord of Pain and Pleasure. His followers are hedonists, dedicated to the pursuit of sensation.

The Eternal Guard are the protectors of the forest during winter, while the Dryads and Treemen sleep. They also serve as the bodyguards for wood elf lords.

Wood Elf Highborn

Glade Guard are the archers of the Wood Elves. Unlike most archer regiments, Glade Guard can be highly mobile, capable of moving without loss of accuracy, and are more deadly at short range.

A Battle standard bearer of the chaos god Slaanesh. He (yes, he) was formerly a imperial soldier, but has since become a herald of the Empire’s greatest foe, the forces of Chaos. His appearance has been twisted by the gifts of his new patron.

The upper body is that of a classic mounted daemonette, the lower is from a “Battle for Macragge” Genestealer. A sword and leg armour from the Empire Soldier frame have been added.

I failed to get a good shot of the banner itself, which is why it was omitted.

Warhammer Skaven Clanrats. Obviously I need more practice at photography, but I don’t think that this was too bad for my first, aha, shot.

How I painted these models follows:

1. Glue sand to the base. Undercoat the model with Chaos Black.
2. Paint eyes with Blood Red.
3. Pant wood and bone with Bubonic Brown.
4. Paint all metal areas with Tin Bitz.
5. Paint leathers with Snakebite Leather.
6. Paint cloth with a mix of Vomit Brown and Chaos Black.
7. Paint fur with Vermin Brown, Bestial Brown, Terracotta or a mix of the above.
8. Paint skin with Tanned Flesh.
9. Paint teeth and claws with Bleached Bone.
10. Highlight decorative metals with Dwarf Bronze, leaving the basecoat only in the recesses.
11. Highlight other metals with Mithril Silver, first with a light drybrush around the edges and raised areas, and then with small painted highlights and scratches.
12. Wash the entire model with Chestnut Ink.
13. Drybush wood and bone areas with Bubonic Brown, then more lightly with Bleached Bone.
14. Highlight decorative metals with Dwarf Bronze, then with a mix of Dwarf Bronze and Mithril Silver.
15. Highlight other metals with Mithril Silver, first with a light drybrush around the edges and raised areas, and then with small painted highlights and scratches. Leave some of the chestnut-tainted highlights showing.
16. Highlight leathers with Snakebite Leather, then with a mix of Snakebite Leather and Bubonic Brown.
17. Highlight cloth with a mix of Vomit Brown and Chaos Black, then the same mix with Skull White added.
18. Highlight skin with Tanned Flesh, then with a mix of Tanned Flesh and Rotting Flesh.
19. Highlight teeth and claws with Bleached Bone.
20. Wash the wood, bone and all the metal areas with a slightly watered mix of brown and green inks. Vary the proportions of the mix from model to model.
21. Drybrush the wood and bone areas with Bleached Bone until quite pale.
22. Paint the sand with Scorched Brown.
23. Drybrush the sand with Graveyard Earth. Don’t mind if some gets on the lower parts of the model.
24. Flood any bald patches on the base with Green Ink.
25. Paint the edges of the base with Scorched Earth.
26. Give the model a coat of Purity Seal (Satin Varnish).
