Integrate your Firefox bookmarks with del.icio.us

The problem with normal bookmarks is that they are stored on the local computer, inaccessible unless you’re at that one machine. And although storing your bookmarks on an online service solves this problem, using them is often much more work than normal bookmarks. The del.icio.us Bookmarks Firefox Add-on solves both problems by replacing your normal bookmark interface with one that works with the del.icio.us social bookmarks service.

I installed it myself mainly because my computer is dual-boot, and it’ll save me the hassle of syncing bookmarks between the two OS’s

After installing the Add-on, you will be asked if you want to upload your bookmarks to del.icio.us, and, from then on, your normal bookmark interface will be gone, replaced with the new del.icio.us bookmarks interface. This interface is far from perfect, but is much more handy than using the del.icio.us site.

My tips, from installing this myself are: Before installing the Add-on, rearrange your bookmarks so that there aren’t any folders-within-folders. Each of your bookmarks will be given tags depending on what folders that they’re in. For example, I change my folder ps2 that was within the folder ‘games’ to be instead ‘games_ps2′. Rename the folders too, as tags can’t have spaces. Finally, don’t let the add-on automatically add tags, It’ll make your tag-list a huge mess.
