What I Did On My Holidays
Over the break I tried out a number of web apps and started on a project of my own. Oh, and got some classwork done too. Of course. (ehheheheheh).
- SlimTimer: This is a handy timekeeper app. The actual timer part sits in a small, narrow window of it’s own (hence the name). This is particularly useful for me, as I keep some space over the side of my screen clear of my main applications. Less useful to those who are married to full-screen mode.
- Google Docs and Spreadsheets: Google Docs was Writely before. Now both these apps are out of beta and are accessible from the one pane.
- Google Reader: Much like Bloglines, but with more, well, style, I guess.
- Basecamp: Most of us know it. I set up my own account so I could use it with the Basecamp Dashboard Widget
- Speaking of dashboard widgets, Dolor Sit Amet is a handy Lorem Ipsum generator, for filler text, In The Know is the best RSS reader widget I’ve found, and Weather Australia and Degrees Down Under are handy for local weather.
- Fire Cross is a really impressive medley of tunes from Final Fantasy and Chrono Trigger.
- I’ve got my paws on a copy of Windows XP. I’ll install it on my MacBook Pro with Boot Camp once the latter finishes downloading.
- Finally, I’ve got some hosting with Servage, and have started on my own site: Ogremindes.net
